Golden Tips
  • 1. Find the right music teacher
Seek out a reputed teacher with extensive experience to guide you through the core principles and complex intricacies of Hindustani music. Wrong learning leads to painful, time-consuming process of unlearning before starting afresh.
  • 2. Learn the basic framework first
Before touching the complex pieces, master the basics such as thaats, ragas, swara, taals, scales, moods and the emotions associated with it. Know the structures and traits of ragas, and how they create their magic.
  • 3. Stay original. Practice devotedly
Good/bad voice does not matter, but hitting the right notes does. Only practice makes you surila (melodious). Stay original to create your own identity and practice regularly to unlock your full vocal potential and deepens your musical connection.
  • 4. Listen to the legends
Being a good listener is must before being a good vocalist/musician. Immerse in the music by listening to the recordings of legendary vocalists to guide you through the musical intricacies and diverse styles.
  • 5. Have patience and perseverance
The beauty of Hindustani Classical music unfolds slowly, like a lotus flower. Two hours of dedicated and patient daily morning riyaz results in discovery, joy and growth. Stay committed.
